Legal agreement
Terms & Conditions
The agreement between you and Altair Solutions Private Limited for your use of ALM.
Last updated
These Terms govern your use of the ALM application for mobile and handheld devices, this website, and the services provided through them. ALM is operated by Altair Solutions Private Limited, a company incorporated in India with its registered office in Mumbai. Read them together with our Privacy Policy, which sets out what we do with your data.
Read this before you use ALM
These Terms bind you from the moment you download, install or use the app, or use this website. If you do not accept them, do not use ALM. Use it only for lawful, authorised purposes and in good faith, and do not give false or misleading information about yourself. If we close your account for a breach of these Terms, you may not open another without our permission.
Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using ALM, you confirm that you have read and understood these Terms and agree to be bound by them.
These Terms are a binding agreement between you and Altair Solutions Private Limited. If you accept them for a chambers, a firm or any other entity, you confirm that you have authority to bind it.
We may revise these Terms. The revised version is posted here with a new date at the top, and where a change is material we will also tell you in the app or by email. If you continue to use ALM after a change takes effect, you accept it.
Definitions
In these Terms:
- ALM
- the ALM mobile application, this website, and every service and tool provided through them.
- We, us, our
- Altair Solutions Private Limited, a company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013, with its registered office at Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- You, user
- any person or entity that registers for or uses ALM — an advocate, a member of a firm's staff, a firm itself, or a litigant.
- Content
- everything put into ALM: case details, documents, notes, tasks, messages, and any other material you upload or create.
- Court record
- the case information ALM reads from the public eCourts record and other published court sources.
- Plan
- the free trial or the paid access you hold, whether for a single matter or for a firm.
- Confidential information
- non-public information either of us discloses to the other, including case data, client information and business terms.
Your account
Most of ALM needs an account. When you open one, you agree to:
Give accurate details
Register with true, current and complete information and keep it up to date. An advocate's enrolment details must be your own.
Keep it secure
Your credentials and your device are yours to protect. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
Report a breach
Tell us as soon as you become aware of, or reasonably suspect, unauthorised use of your account, a lost device, or any other security incident.
Be 18 or older
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into a contract in India.
One account, one person
An account is personal to the user it is issued to. Do not transfer it, share it, or give anyone else access to it. Within a firm, add each person as their own user with their own role.
Acceptable use
Use ALM lawfully, and only for what your plan covers. The prohibitions below are what Indian law requires of us as an intermediary; break them and we may suspend or close your account.
Do not transmit, upload or share content that
- infringes a patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right, including ours;
- is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, defamatory, libellous, or invasive of another person's privacy, including bodily privacy;
- is harassing, hateful, or objectionable on the ground of race, religion, caste, sex, gender or ethnicity;
- harms a child in any way;
- impersonates another person, or misleads anyone about where the content came from;
- is patently false or misleading and is stated as though it were fact;
- relates to or encourages money laundering or gambling;
- contains a virus, or any code designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the working of a computer resource;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, its friendly relations with a foreign state, or public order, or incites a cognisable offence, or obstructs the investigation of one;
- breaks any law in force.
Do not
- use ALM for an unlawful or unauthorised purpose, or for anything other than what your plan covers;
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to ALM, to another user's account, or to any system or network connected to it;
- defeat, bypass, disable or interfere with any security, protection or monitoring measure;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, translate or modify any part of ALM;
- scrape or crawl ALM, or use any automated means to extract data from it or to create accounts on it;
- interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of ALM;
- sell, resell, rent, sublicense or charge for access to ALM, or make it available over a network for use by several devices at once;
- collect information about other users, or use contact details obtained through ALM to reach them outside it or to build a mailing list;
- send bulk messages, auto-dial or auto-message, or put ALM to any other non-personal use we have not authorised;
- place advertising inside ALM;
- reach ALM other than through the interfaces we publish.
Authorised use only
ALM is for the users your plan covers, authenticated through the mechanism we provide. It is not to be used for any other purpose.
Unlawful content and language
Where unparliamentary language or unlawful content is reported and confirmed, the user responsible may be barred from ALM.
Updates and maintenance
We update ALM periodically to keep it working well and compliant with the law governing it. That may mean a short interruption, or an app update you need to install before continuing.
A breach of these Terms may be reported to the Grievance Officer, Altair Solutions Private Limited, at the address in the last clause.
Plans, payment and cancellation
ALM begins with a free trial. Paid access is bought for a matter, or arranged for a firm. Payment is collected through Razorpay, and we do not store your card details.
What you pay
- The free trial covers one matter for three days, for advocates and litigants alike, and needs no card.
- Paid access to a matter is charged at the price shown when you buy it. A firm plan is quoted separately.
- Prices are in Indian rupees. Where a price is shown exclusive of tax, GST and any other applicable tax is added at checkout.
- You authorise us, through Razorpay, to charge the payment method you select for the amounts due.
Renewal and cancellation
- Where you have set up a recurring payment, it renews unless you cancel before the renewal date, as the Reserve Bank of India's e-mandate rules require.
- You can cancel a recurring payment from your account settings, or through the mandate management page of your bank or of Razorpay.
- Cancelling stops future charges. Access continues until the end of the period already paid for.
- We do not refund a part-used period unless the law requires it. If we have charged you in error, tell us and we will refund it.
Changing a plan or a price
- You may move to a larger plan at any time; the difference is charged pro rata.
- A move to a smaller plan takes effect at the end of the current period.
- We may change prices on at least 30 days' notice. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for.
Check your standing instructions
For your own security, review the e-mandates on your account from time to time through your bank or Razorpay's mandate management page, and cancel any you no longer want.
Intellectual property
ALM — its software, design, text, logos, marks and everything else we put into it — belongs to Altair Solutions Private Limited and its licensors, and remains ours.
What you may do
For as long as your plan is active you hold a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use ALM for its intended purpose. The licence is personal to you and ends when your access does.
What you may not do
Do not copy, reproduce, modify, translate, distribute, publish, sell or derive anything from ALM or its content, and do not use our name or marks, without our written permission.
Orders, judgments and other court documents are public records, and nothing here claims ownership of them. What is ours is the way ALM assembles, presents and explains them.
Your content and your data
Your case data is yours. A case file is confidential, often privileged, and never ours to trade.
You own what you put in
Case details, documents, notes and messages remain yours. You grant us only the permission we need to host them, show them to you, and run the features you have asked for.
Export it whenever you like
You can export your matters and your documents at any time while your access is live.
Confidential, and not for sale
We do not sell your content and we share it only as our Privacy Policy sets out. Chat between an advocate and a litigant is end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read it.
Deletion on request
Ask us to delete your data and we will, subject to what the law requires us to keep.
Consent to use your personal data
By using ALM you consent to our collecting and using your personal data in order to provide the service. What we collect, how, and why is set out in full in our Privacy Policy. You may withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account and removing ALM from your device — after which you will no longer be able to use the service.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, neither we nor our directors, employees or partners are liable for:
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss of any kind;
- lost profits, lost revenue, lost business or lost goodwill;
- loss or corruption of data, or an interruption in the service;
- an act or omission of a court, of the eCourts system, or of any other source ALM reads from;
- a decision you take, or fail to take, in a matter — including a missed hearing, a missed period of limitation or a missed filing.
The most we can be liable for
Where we are liable, our total liability for all claims connected with ALM will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in this clause limits a liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.
Suspension and closing your account
Either of us may bring this agreement to an end.
By you
Cancel your access and delete your account from your settings at any time. Access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
By us
We may suspend or close your account — with notice where that is practicable, and immediately where it is not — if you breach these Terms, use ALM unlawfully, put other users or the platform at risk, or fail to pay what is due.
What happens next
Your right to use ALM ends. You have 30 days to export your data, after which we delete it, except what we are required to keep. Anything already due stays due.
Disclaimers
The limits of what ALM is, and of what it can promise, are stated plainly here rather than buried in the clauses above.
ALM is provided as it is
ALM is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, timely or free of error.
The court record is the court's, not ours
Case information comes from the public eCourts record and other published court sources. We do not control it, we cannot promise it is complete, current or accurate, and it can change or become unavailable without notice. ALM is not a live connection to any court. Verify a date, an order or a status against the court's own record, or against the certified copy, before you act on it.
ALM is not legal advice
ALM is a case-tracking and practice-management tool. It does not give legal advice, and using it creates no advocate–client relationship between you and us. A summary or an answer from the AI assistant is drawn from the documents on your file and can be wrong or incomplete; the professional judgment in a matter remains yours. Where ALM shows an order, the order is reproduced exactly as the court wrote it.
Telling us about a problem
We will make every effort to keep ALM performing well, but we cannot guarantee that it will never fail. Report a defect or a bug to us at info@altairsolutions.ai and we will look into it.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute arises, we work through it in this order:
- 01Talk to us firstMost problems are a misunderstanding. Write to the Grievance Officer and we will try to resolve it with you in good faith within 30 days.
- 02MediationIf that does not settle it, we will both attempt mediation before an accredited mediator at Mumbai.
- 03ArbitrationA dispute still unresolved is referred to arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, before a sole arbitrator, seated at Mumbai and conducted in English. The award is final and binding.
The courts at Mumbai have exclusive jurisdiction over these Terms. Nothing in this clause prevents either of us from asking a competent court for urgent interim or injunctive relief.
